Kyoto, Corrupted

Kyoto, Corrupted starts after the Kiyomizu debrief and sends you to seal two rifts in Eastern Kyoto. This route visits the western rift first, then the northern one. The final step is reporting to Takamura at the temple. It covers story progression, with basic advice for the enemies at the rifts; it does not attempt a complete city collectible sweep.

Controls below use the PlayStation layout shown in the game. Use your displayed bindings if you have remapped them.

Leave the temple and use the Johari Shard

With Seal the Rifts — 0/2 active, leave Rokudo-chinnoji Temple through its main gate. Finish the street scene and the Johari Shard tutorial.

In Eastern Kyoto, press or hold L2 + R2 together to call up the shard's guiding light. An icon in the upper-left indicates when it is available. Check the map for the western and northern objectives, then use the guidance and street landmarks to approach the western one first.

The shard works in Eastern Kyoto. Use the availability icon and the map if you lose the trail.

If a street ends at a solid Malice barrier, return to the preceding junction and follow an open road around it. Your targets are the red rifts in enemy courtyards. Approaching a blocked street does not seal a rift or advance the counter.

Western rift: the courtyard near Kamo River

Head west from the temple area toward the first objective. The rift lies in a courtyard east of the river, surrounded by thatched buildings and bamboo fencing. Use the map marker to locate the yard rather than continuing onto the river bridge.

Enter this yard and approach the red rift to begin its enemy encounter.

The encounter introduces Kubi Akari, the floating heads. Keep them in view while dealing with the ground-level Genma; do not stay committed to a long melee string while a head is attacking from range. The Oni Bow lets you attack a floating target from a distance: aim, hold R2 and release to fire. Move or defend before taking another shot if the other enemies close in.

Keep clearing the enemies that join the fight. Once the area is clear, move near the red rift until Absorb Rift is available, then hold L2 until absorption finishes.

Checkpoint: the rift vanishes and Seal the Rifts reads 1/2. If the counter has not changed, check for a remaining enemy, move closer to the rift and complete the full absorption instead of tapping L2.

Northern rift: through the flower garden

Leave the western courtyard and head east toward the street outside Rokudo-chinnoji Temple. Continue along the road east of the temple, then turn north at the intersection. Use the remaining objective marker and the Johari Shard to stay on the route through the streets and bamboo-lined passages.

Look for a torii gate with stone guardian statues. Beyond it, the scenery changes to a brightly coloured garden. Follow the stone path through the flowers, past the people at the shrine, and out through the other torii gate.

Continue through the garden and leave by the far torii gate to reach the Higashioji Street side.

Past the garden, the Higashioji Street Spirit Mirror is a useful checkpoint. Follow the street west toward the remaining rift marker, clearing the Genma along the way. Enter the marked courtyard gate to trigger the Togemaru introduction beside the damaged building.

Clear Togemaru and absorb the second rift

Togemaru curls into a spiked wheel and rolls toward you. Keep it in view, move clear of its line and use Circle to dodge its approach. Wait until the roll stops before closing for a short counterattack. Reposition when it starts moving again instead of chasing it with continuous attacks.

Finish the enemies that follow, including the ordinary Genma around the damaged building. Defeating the first Togemaru does not replace clearing the encounter and absorbing the rift.

Approach the rift and hold L2 to finish the seal after the fight.

Walk up the sloping debris onto the collapsed roof beneath the rift. Once Absorb Rift appears, hold L2 until the rift disappears. Watch the objective after the second seal: it becomes Speak with Takamura. That change is your signal to return to the temple.

Return to Takamura to complete the story

Leave the rift courtyard and return to the Higashioji Street Spirit Mirror, beside the bamboo fence under a red roof. Press Cross (×) — Examine, then choose Travel → Eastern Kyoto → Rokudo-chinnoji Temple and press Cross (×) to travel. Approach Takamura on the wooden veranda and finish the conversation and ensuing scenes with Shizuka.

The mission ends when Story Complete — Kyoto, Corrupted appears. Closing two rifts completes the field objective, but the temple conversation is still part of this story.

The Oni’s Apprentice begins afterward. Its new conversation objective belongs to the next story.
