Patching up the Pouch

Patching up the Pouch begins after A Strength in Refuge. Okuni needs a special material from a nearby old temple to repair Musashi's Hozuki Pouch. This guide covers the key, the route through the temple, the hidden chest and the hand-in.

Inputs use the displayed PlayStation layout: Cross (×), Square (□), Triangle (△) and Circle (○). Follow your displayed bindings if remapped.

Speak with Okuni and get the key

Leave the cave from A Strength in Refuge by climbing the well ladder. Return through the yard and house to the street, then use the Spirit Mirror near the large gnarled tree. Choose Travel → Eastern Kyoto → Rokudo-chinnoji Temple and confirm with Cross.

From the temple courtyard, enter the side room where Okuni sits behind a sewing desk, surrounded by folded fabric and storage furniture. Approach and press Cross — Talk. Finish the conversation about the worn pouch and the Oni materials she needs.

Okuni gives you the Old Temple Key ×1. Wait for Head for the old temple before leaving.

Unlock the old temple

Leave Rokudo-chinnoji Temple through its main gate. Open the map and track Patching up the Pouch: the old temple's mission circle lies southwest of Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, near the Practice Ground area.

Follow the street toward that marker, passing the hanging cloth and shop fronts. Deal with the Genma near the low fenced seating area, then continue to the large paired wooden doors at the marked entrance. Press Cross at the door prompt to use the key. Used Old Temple Key and Look for Hozuki Pouch materials confirm that you have entered the correct place.

The Spirit Mirror upgrade menus and charm purchases can wait; they are separate from the key and material objectives.

Pass through the ruined buildings

Beyond the gate, follow the narrow approach past broken fencing and planks. Enter the small storeroom through the opening beside the barrels and stacked baskets. A Genma ambush occurs here; finish it and move back outside.

Continue through the wreckage and duck under the collapsed horizontal beam. Across the small courtyard, enter the larger building. Its lower room contains papers, candles and low tables.

A scene by the seated man turns into a fight. Defeat the hostile Genma, then look along the interior wall for the wooden ladder leading into the attic.

Climb up, clear the enemies among the attic's barrels and boxes, and use the second ladder through the ceiling opening. You emerge onto a tiled roof overlooking a courtyard filled with stone statues and bamboo scaffolding. Drop into that courtyard.

Clear the courtyard and reveal the chest

Fight through the enemies around the stone steps and statues. Use L1 to guard, Circle to evade, and short Square counterattacks after an enemy finishes its swing. Against shields or armor, use Triangle + Circle — Oni Strength to break their protection.

Enemies also attack from the raised wooden roofing. Aim the Oni Bow upward and hold and release R2 to shoot them, then finish the remaining enemies on the courtyard floor. Keep enough space to see the next attacker instead of getting trapped against the bamboo fencing.

At the far side, go up the stone steps into the small hall with an altar. Use L2 + R2 — Oni Vision to reveal the golden Oni Glyph in front of the altar.

Approach the Glyph and press Cross — Use Oni Power. Wait for the black-and-gold chest to appear, then press Cross — Examine at the chest. It contains Oni Cloth (Healing) ×1.

Wait for Hand over the materials to Okuni. Ordinary cloth found elsewhere in the temple does not replace this special chest reward.

Hand the material to Okuni

Leave the chest room through its side doorway. Follow the exterior path to the wooden gate, open it from the inside and return to the street. Retrace the route past the shop fronts to the main gate of Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, then return to Okuni's sewing room.

Press Cross — Talk and finish the hand-in conversation. The Hozuki Pouches screen confirms that Musashi's pouch has been enhanced by the power of the Oni. The repaired Hozuki Pouch: Default shows 5/5 and boosted healing power.

Close the tutorial panels and finish Okuni's final conversation. Story Complete — Patching up the Pouch confirms the endpoint. The menu's After Enhancement: 5 → 6 is the next upgrade preview; you do not need to gather its listed cloth and leather to finish this story.

After leaving the room, the main route resumes Windswept Kennin-ji — Investigate Kennin-ji Temple.
