Some Unfinished Monkey Business

Some Unfinished Monkey Business sends Musashi back to Rendaino to confront the remnants of the Yoshioka school. The encounter has two rounds of combat, separated by Dokyo's intervention. The first victory does not finish the story.

Talk to the boy beside the hanging monkeys

Travel to Eastern Kyoto → Yasaka Pagoda. Descend from the Spirit Mirror beside the stone steps to the small shrine decorated with strings of colored cloth monkeys.

The boy wearing a green cap stands beside a girl near the hanging decorations. Speak to the boy with Cross (×). He recalls Musashi's earlier help and explains what the Yoshioka men were praying for.

Finish the conversation with Murasaki. After the transition, the task opens at the Rendaino approach, with New Story — Some Unfinished Monkey Business and the objective Look for the remnants of the Yoshioka school.

These directions begin when the boy offers this lead. They do not establish every earlier requirement for unlocking it.

Climb to the ruined hall at Rendaino

From the starting lane, pass the open chest on the cart and the burning brazier. Continue straight toward the wide stone staircase between the stone lanterns. The supplies beside the stairs are separate from the objective.

Climb through the large roofed wooden gate and approach the ruined hall across the weed-covered clearing. The conversation begins there. Let it finish until the three Yoshioka followers reveal their transformation and Defeat the Genma appears.

Defeat the first group without getting surrounded

You fight three sword-wielding followers together. Their position matters more than rushing the nearest health bar: back toward the open part of the clearing so that another swordsman cannot attack from behind while you focus on one.

Use L1 to guard an incoming swing or Circle (○) to evade, then answer with a short Square (□) attack sequence. Stop attacking and reposition when a second enemy closes in. When the on-screen Triangle (△) + Circle counter prompt appears, use it to punish the opening.

Hold L2 to absorb released souls when you have room to do so. Continue until all three enemies are down and the scene with Dokyo begins.

Fight again after Dokyo's interruption

Dokyo intervenes and the followers return to combat. Stay in the same clearing and defeat the group again. This is the second round of the encounter; the story objective remains Defeat the Genma.

Keep all active attackers in view. Guard or evade the immediate sword attack, take a short opening, then move before the others can flank you. Focus on reducing the group one enemy at a time instead of holding a long attack sequence between them.

When the final enemy falls, continue the closing scene with the surviving follower and Musashi. Let the following transition and Murasaki's explanation of the Hanging Monkeys finish.

Confirm the Oni Strength Charm reward

Control returns at Yasaka Shrine after the conclusion. Wait for Story Complete — Some Unfinished Monkey Business and the Hanging Monkeys Curious Cases update.

The rewards are Whetstone ×2, Iron ×1, Tempered Iron ×2 and Oni Strength Charm ×1. Receiving these and the named completion notice marks the end of this story.
